Pictures and stuff

Hey team!

If you made it to the VERY wet practice on Friday pictures and mud were passed out. we had a pretty low turn-out so just worked on dribbling and a few other games.

I am very sorry if I was unable to get in contact with you before practice. My notice was very short and I did my best. :(Next practice I'll pass out pictures for those that missed.

Jennifer Mohr is the team mom and we spoke on Friday. She requests that you all bring a check (or cash) to practice Friday for $15 for tropheys and stuff. If you have any questions, call her at (281) 358-5019.

Picture day

In case I forget to mention it at practice:

Pictures are at Kingwood Middle School at 8:40 Saturday, October 14th.

Be there or be square.

"But why Coach? Why?"

There are lots of different styles of coaching, even at the Y.

I'm really light on technical skills at this age and am more concerned with making sure the kids want to stay in sports. Those kids who are more advanced will move on their own to competitive leagues. I work best with the other kids, the ones who aren't always the best players, but will be better people because they had fun, made friends, exercised, learned to be good sports.

I have played against teams with serious coaches. Guys who played semi-pro. Guys out on the field with their clipboards, yelling at kids out of position. Maybe some kids work better that way. I don't.

I see kids that I coached in elementary and early middle school who are now in high-school and still smile at me and talk about soccer. That's the pay-off. If I'm very, very lucky I'll see these kids grow up, get married, have children, and coach their own kids. What more could a coach ask for?

Editor note: This post was written a few years ago.

You want a schedule? I got one!

OK . .sorry about all the changes of shirts today.

We have pictures!!

Emma's folks took some pictures and agreed to share them!

Click on the photo below to see a larger image or click here to see the whole album.

Thanks for a great game. Next weeks practice will focus on passing up and down the line so the kids aren't running around so much.

Team Meeting notes

Team name: Unknown

Game schedule: Quickscores

Location (Practice and games) : Deerwood Elementary School
Map: 2910 High Valley Dr

Practice time: 5:30 PM on Fridays

Snack schedule will be posted soon. Susan and I will handle game 1.

Weather Line: 281.628.5730 (Do not call the YMCA. They will hate me if you do. Call the weather line or call me. Please.)

Team "Parent" {everyone knows it's a team Mom}: Jennifer Mohr

Free ball: Beasly Tire is giving away free soccer balls. Swing by and say "Hey." Tell them the YMCA sent you.

  • Make sure you send lots of water with your child.
  • Make sure they are wearing shin guards.
  • They like soccer, they like you . . . do the math.
  • Don't forget the snacks. And sticky snacks are a bad idea. No giant cookies!
  • Snack suggestions: quartered oranges for half-time; juice and chips after the game.
The kids also like grapes for half and Teddy Grahams or animal crackers for after.
  • Don't forget to do the tunnel thing after the game.
  • Make sure you talk to them about the game.
  • Call me if you need anything. Rides, soccer tips, bad parenting advice, vegetarian recipes. Whatever.
I think that covers it. I'll post here if I forgot anything.

Have a great season.

Meet the Coach

Meet the coach:

Hi. I'm Aaron Klenke. I have four daughters from the age of twenty down to three. I've been coaching YMCA sports for six or seven years. Most of it soccer.

I have been playing soccer since I was tiny. It's a good game for kids and the Y is a good place to learn it.

I'm going to work on having fun playing the game and running the right way. I'm going to work on teaching them that listening to the coach is important and fun.

I'm going to try to work the YMCA core values into the game (caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith).

Your kids are going to be a part of my life and I'm going to work on being a part of theirs. I have kids in high-school that I coached that still call me coach. I love that feeling. I like to think I had something to do with them being good kids.

Thanks for trusting me with them for the season.
